Maureen “Reenie” (McGinnis) Kornfeind, 62, of Freeport, went home to Our Lord on February 18, 2025, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born on October 21, 1962 to Lawrence and Charlotte (Rademaker) McGinnis, the youngest of five children. She attended Freeport Catholic Schools and graduated from Highland Community College. She worked for several years as a legal secretary and for the Stephenson County State’s Attorney Office. Reenie was an excellent athlete, enjoying basketball and tennis. She was a choir member at both St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Mary Catholic Churches in Freeport, where she met her husband, Michael Kornfeind. They were married on June 23, 1990. They completed their family with the birth of their son Christopher in 1994 and daughter Erin in 1999, as well as adding numerous rescued cats along the way.
